Yunnan Military Academy

If you walk around the Green Lake park, you will find many historical museums or architectures, and Yunnan Military academy is one of them. It is the former site of Yunan land force school, which was establish in 1909 by Qing government in order to keep its power. However, it turns out to be one of the most important military school that cultivated soldiers and commanders for the overthrown of Qing government. There are three major military school in 20th China, which were Whampoa Military academy, Baoding Military academy and Yunan Military Academy. Many famous officers who played a very significant role in the establishment of The People’s Republic of China, used to study here such as Zhu De, Ye jianying and Tang Jiyao.

The soldier in the Museum dress up everyday. They are the presence of history in this elegant building. Back in 20th, when the school first established it had four major subjects which were infantry, artillery, cavalry and engineer. Later, the school added air arm.

The buildings were traditional Chinese architecture, which were connected by four different buildings around the main square. It looks like a rectangular shape building from the sky.

Like I mentioned in the begining, a few officers were studying in this military school. History has shown us that many of them changed the destiny of China in 20th century. Zhu De and Ye Jianying, for example, all had studied here and influence the future of the Chinese Communist Party. Zhu De was the supreme commander of the Communist army. During World War II, as the major commander, Zhu De led the Communist army to fight the invasion of Japan. After, he helped Mao Zedong to fight the Nationalist Party and eventually gain success. Ye Jianying was also a marshal. In his earily life, he followed Sun Yat-sen to fight warlords around China.
